Enormous new Scheels All Sports store hiring over 200 workers in Missoula
- May 11, 2021
Missoula, MT (June 2021) — To say it has been a difficult last year might be the understatement of the century. The pandemic has affected many facets of lives of Montanans, including employment. In 2020 thousands of Montana businesses were forced to lay off their workforce in order to survive the extended shutdown. However, in the first 5 months of 2021 Missoula County has begun to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Factors contributing to that hope include:
The translation: Montana is open for business! Yet while Montana companies are excited to return to normal, many are struggling to fill job openings in nearly every industry. According to Montana Department of Labor & Industry our workforce is 10,000 or more workers smaller than it was pre-pandemic – despite an influx of new residents from out-of-state. There are currently 14,000+ job openings available statewide on MontanaWorks.Gov.
The goal of the Employment Expo at Southgate Mall is to connect Missoula-area businesses with job seekers who are currently unemployed, underemployed, or may be seeking a change in their work situation. The networking event will be held on Thursday, July 15 from 12:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. throughout the shopping center.
Tim Winger, General Manager at Southgate Mall remarked, “We’ve been hearing from not only our stores but also many local businesses that they have great job openings available, yet they need an effective way to connect with potential employees. Online job postings can only go so far, and with in-person events becoming more possible, our team felt it was a very good time to introduce the Employment Expo. We expect over 75 employers from a wide variety of industries. We are working with community partners such as Destination Missoula, Missoula Area Chamber of Commerce and Missoula Midtown Association, as well as Montana State officials to create a top-notch event.”
Employers must register for a booth ahead of time by visiting http://fal.cn/EmploymentExpo.
Job seekers are encouraged to bring copies of their resume or contact cards. The first 400 will receive a free tote bag courtesy of sponsors Express Employment Professionals, Allegiance Benefit Plan Management, and Republic Services. A full listing of the companies that will attend will be released as the Employment Expo grows nearer.
